01 El Caminito del Rey

El Caminito del Rey translates to The King's little pathway. You will find this walkway lining the walls of a very steep and narrow gorge in El Chorro.
Constructed of concrete resting on steel rails that were supported by stanchions, this walkway provided a path for workers Chorro Falls and Gaitanejo Falls to transport materials, and to maintain and inspect the facilities.
The walkway is a harrowing 3 feet wide and hangs precariously to the sides of the gorge walls well over 300 feet above the river below.
After years of neglect, the walkway became so dangerous it needed to be closed. But that didn't stop people from attempting to make the hike. It was once referred to as the world's most dangerous walkway because of 5 deaths due to accidents in 1999 and 2000.
The walkway was closed for over a decade but after an extensive repair and renovation project, it was reopened in 2015.
